X-energy is seeking professionals to join our Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) team in the role of Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer. This role is responsible for performing Continuous Improvement services in support of X-energy’s reactor development including documenting, implementing, and maintaining United States Commercial Nuclear, Department of Energy, Canadian Nuclear and International Quality Management systems. You'll ensure compliance to applicable NRC, DOE, CNSC and ISO requirements for project, program, and process activities developing, implementing, and maintaining programs, processes, and metrics to support and show objective evidence X-energy is a learning organization committed to a healthy Nuclear Safety Culture. This includes responsibility for relevant administrative and technical quality decisions. You will apply your detailed knowledge, understanding and experience in the functional discipline and its practical application, industry codes, guidelines, and regulations. You will also actively support our safety culture and Quality Assurance activities associated with X-energy’s Corrective Action Program, Self-Assessment Program, Customer Feedback Program, Process Improvement Initiatives, Nuclear Safety Culture Surveys, Annual Management Reviews, and P6 Scheduling of Quality Activities.
Responsibilities
This position will lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities below without close supervision and extensive latitude for independent judgement.
- Drive the continued develop, implementation, and maintenance of the self-assessment program and identify opportunities for continual improvement
- Identify, collect, and review for relevance and significance the experienced gained and make available to others as applicable. Collaborate with other stakeholders to effectively disseminate operating experience/lessons learned to the organization
- Perform root cause analyses and trend analysis of causes and problems identified in continuous improvement activities
- Work with business leaders to identify, coordinate and/or lead a wide variety of continuous improvement initiatives and projects designed to improve compliance, safety, and quality across company processes
- Promote the delivery of better value and greater efficiency through the identification and elimination of unnecessary complexity within business processes and identification of better ways of working
- Elicit requirements and drive process change using staff interviews, observations, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, business analysis and workflow analysis
- Maintain and improve the management review process used to assess the effectiveness of the management system
- Aid in the request and collation of data and metrics, coordination of the meetings and collection of the discussion points for the management review
- Support the maintenance of the Quality team’s P6 schedule
- Support the organization and execution of the Nuclear Safety Culture survey, and aid in the collation and summary of data points to be shared with the organization in support of continuous improvement
- Support the effective implementation of the corrective action program, providing support for Corrective Action Program administrator as needed
- Assist with conducting internal quality inspections and internal audits
- Obtain/Maintain NQA-1, CSA, ISO, and any other international recognized auditor credential as applicable
- Assist with supplier evaluations and qualifications through audits, assessments, surveillances, and inspections
- Play an active role to ensure safety and quality culture is promoted and continually improved
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally and domestically for supplier and customer site visits
- Ensure that all personal training and corrective action responsibilities are completed on-time and with high quality
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) or related field from an ABET accredited college or university
- Typically, fifteen years of experience in a Continuous Improvement role, of which a minimum of six years must include project management and business analysis experience, is required (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience)
- In lieu of a bachelor’s degree in STEM or related field, these education requirements may be met by having six plus years of pertinent nuclear related experience (commercial nuclear, DOE, Navy Nuclear, supply chain, engineering, etc.). Additionally, non-STEM degrees (i.e. business management, supply chain, project management, quality, technology associate’s degrees, etc.) will be considered in conjunction with prior work experience and training on a case-by-case scenario
- Certified nuclear Lead Auditor credentials, or ability to obtain if not certified
- Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and ability to apply 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR Part 21, ASME NQA-1, and ISO 9001 requirements to nuclear design and manufacturing programs
- Basic knowledge and understanding of nuclear design and manufacturing quality-related issues, including commodity process optimization, process improvement, new product introduction, and lean improvement
- Certified nuclear Lead Auditor credentials, or ability to obtain if not certified
- Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, or ability to obtain if not certified
- Basic knowledge and understanding across a broad range of nuclear and manufacturing quality related issues, including commodity process optimization, process improvement, new product introduction, and lean improvement
Work Site Expectations: 2-3 days per week in company office
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Mon-Fri
