Role summary

Volley is looking for a thoughtful, decisive, and innovative engineering manager to join our mobile games team. You would oversee all production engineering for Volley’s flagship mobile gaming application: Faceoff — Song Quiz. You would also work to ensure a healthy and sustainable development process for all team members while constantly improving all aspects of product quality.

This job opportunity offers a hybrid work arrangement, and we are specifically seeking candidates who are comfortable with on-site attendance in our Bay Area office 2-3 times per week and are either currently residing in or near the Bay Area or willing to relocate for on-site work.

What you'll do at Volley

  • Report directly to the VP of Engineering and become a key technical leader within the company
  • Manage a varied product roadmap while prioritizing tech debt & the work-life balance of your team
  • Mentor and grow Volley's mobile engineering team as you build and scale to millions of users.
  • Dive deep into the architecture and lay out a vision for scaling up game development within Faceoff’s nascent dev SDK.
  • Run regular sprint planning meetings and road-mapping discussions as we drive towards scale and monetization.

Stuff you may have done before

  • Built top-notch native iOS or Android applications
  • Managed a high-performance engineering team
  • Worked with Kotlin Multiplatform for Mobile
  • Created products for Smart TVs or Android Auto
  • Worked with audio, voice, or other emerging technologies

Must-haves

  • 5-10 years of proven mobile engineering experience
  • Experience managing high-performance mobile engineering teams.
  • A deep interest in code quality and architecture, and a willingness to dive in when needed.
  • Track record of working directly with products to negotiate an ambitious roadmap.
  • The ability to guide architecture across both mobile platforms and the backend.

Your first 90 days

  • Work with our tech leads to transfer knowledge around our product roadmap and tech stack.
  • Gather feedback from the team and implement process improvements for planning and road mapping
  • Grow existing roadmap projections to span multiple months, or quarters, of work.
  • Mentor our platform leads in the development of Faceoff’s new Mobile SDK for the creation of new games.

For Pay Transparency: The base salary range for this position is $180,000-$225,000 annually, based on a local (San Francisco) hire. The final offer amount may depend on experience, education, skills, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
