About the Role:
Reporting to the QA Manager, the Culinary QC works closely with culinary and production team members. This is a brand new role for Thistle, and QC’s are responsible for performing standardized quality control checks to ensure they meet the required legal and company standards for safety and quality during production. This role will be required to maintain calibrations, check product integrity, and identify areas for quality control improvement on the Culinary team and other parts of the production.

What you'll do

  • Support leadership team with oversight of the quality control checks on the production floors
  • Ensure employees are following GMPs at all times, ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to Thistle policies and procedures.
  • Assist leadership with implementing and maintaining existing and new SOPs and policies; and adherence by employees at all times
  • Ensure all utensils, equipment, and surrounding work areas are kept in a sanitary manner at all times
  • Attend daily shift meetings, weekly meetings, discuss quality & food safety-related topics, and track procedure changes and rollouts
  • Drive and push lines for better efficiency and accuracy meeting targeted goals for the shifts
  • Ensure workstations have the correct ingredients, materials, packaging, and instructions
  • Ensure all documentation, quality control &quality assurance checks and metrics are conducted, completed, and submitted on time by utilizing appropriate metric tools
  • Support employee training programs to include food safety and quality control procedures
  • Evaluate line samples at pre-determined intervals and conduct random inspections
  • Ensure employee practices, process flow, and products comply with company standards as well as Federal and State laws
  • Identify areas for improvement when it comes to quality control and food safety protocols including being open to new equipment, tools, capabilities, other areas/depts. of the plant, and expansion to obtain a greater sense of understanding across other functions of the plant.
  • Support Culinary, Production, and Quality Assurance leadership in day-to-day quality checks in adherence to preventive controls including, but not limited to, temperature checks, taste test, smell test, pH, acidity, equipment calibrations, critical control point monitoring, batch records, proper labeling & verifications, weight checks, lots codes for traceability, ATP, allergen testing, sanitation checks, allergen controls, recipe, component & meal accuracy, root cause, non-conformities, hold/release, etc.

What you'll bring

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • 2+ years experience with quality control food set up in the food industry required; experience in a high-volume food manufacturing facility highly preferred
  • Valid CA Food Handlers Certification(must be obtained prior to taking on this role)
  • Desire to continue to grow skills and grow into other QA/QC roles for the organization
  • Strong communication skills that put people first and the ability to balance empathy and direct feedback in order to both support and advocate for the team and also maintain consistent standards of performance.
  • Ability to form effective working relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to adhere to company SOPs and implement new initiatives as needed
  • Ability and willingness to master new equipment and related automation as it is implemented

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and walking throughout the facility
  • Ability to consistently life up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to60 pounds
  • Ability to work in a cold environment(38 degrees or below) for prolonged periods of time and occasionally in freezer storage
