Position Overview:
Thea Energy is seeking experienced technicians to join its rapidly growing team. The Magnet Technician roles will support the manufacture and assembly of high temperature superconducting (“HTS”) magnets, subcomponents, and associated equipment. The Magnet Technician will be a hands-on role, responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and integration of magnet components, electromechanical equipment, and cryogenic or high-pressure assemblies, and will operate a host of process and test equipment. As part of a rapidly growing team, you’ll be part of the organizational build-up of a leading fusion energy company. These roles may occasionally require a high degree of autonomy and must be able to move quickly. The Thea Energy team is comprised of self-motivated, creative, and fun individuals with an excitement for solving complex problems.

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Assemble and troubleshoot test articles and supporting test equipment as part of our prototyping team
  • Build, configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot custom and commercial machinery including mechanical components, power supplies, instrumentation, tubing, electrical cables, and industrial controls
  • Assist in the development of new equipment, tools, procedures, and inspection techniques to reduce production time while maintaining high quality
  • Modify components or machine new assembly tooling on a 3-axis CNC or manual mill/lathe
  • Operate cranes and forklifts to position and assemble large test equipment with a focus on safety
  • Part processing, including visual inspection, cleaning, and surface preparation
  • Responsible for tool and workspace organization and maintenance
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders

Required Experience & Skillsets:

  • 2 years experience OR recent certification as a technician or mechanic in one of the following fields: Energy, Aerospace, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Electronics, Environmental, Manufacturing, Robotics, Nuclear, Magnetics, Quality Control, Lab/Research, Superconductors, etc.
  • Experience with at least one of the following:
  • 1) CNC Machining and/or quality inspection
    2) Mechanical Assembly
    3) Vacuum system operation
    4) Cryogenic system operation
    5) Electronics, controls, and instrumentation
    6) Test operations including high pressure, vacuum, or cryogenics
    7) Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting electromechanical and electronic systems Experience assembling, troubleshooting, and repairing power and control cable assemblies
  • Basic dimensional and visual inspection skills
  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • Comfortable working to aggressive deadlines and exceptional work ethic
  • Clear technical communication and collaboration skills
  • Innate desire to learn, innovate, and critique ideas including one’s own
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite tools or similar software
  • Ability to execute and flourish in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment

Ideal Experience:

  • The ideal candidate may have experience in one of the following specialized areas. This experience is not required, but should be emphasized by the candidate:
  • Experience assembling, operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting high-pressure or vacuum systems
  • Experience assembling, operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting cryogenic systems
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting or programming automation equipment, e.g. PLC, HMI, or process controllers
  • Experience with reflow solder processes, including PCBA manufacturing
