About Roame & The Role

We are a team of 3 based in San Francisco looking for a Chief of Staff! Our team is fully in-person and works out of our office in Potrero Hill.

Roame is a flight search engine for your credit card points. By constantly monitoring available flight stock, we delight millions of users by finding them their dream flights and have saved members tens of millions in flights.

Roame has raised from top investors including Y Combinator, Goodwater, Accel’s starters fund, and angel investors including the leading figure within points.

Responsibilities

We are hiring a Chief of Staff who has an owner mentality, can wear many hats, and has some interest in or passion for points. As the Chief of Staff, you will work directly with the CEO on many strategic initiatives across product, sales, marketing, social media, event planning, finance, customer support, and operations. You’ll be handling multiple cross-functional tasks and are a jack of all trades. No task is above or beneath you - you’ll be involved in making strategic decisions and will also need to be scrappy when necessary (e.g. we’re going to a conference, don’t have a booth, and you have a $1,000 budget).

TL;DR you’ll be the CEO’s 2nd pair of hands and will have a front row seat on building a startup. This is a great role for people who want to eventually become a founder or COO.

Some Responsibilities You’ll Take On

  • You’ll be handed problems that will require talking to customers, researching competition, running experiments, pulling data, etc. You should have the ability to take on ambiguous tasks, do research, come up with proposals, and execute on solutions. Some examples include exploring new GTM channels, setting up data analytics channels, managing partnerships, creating co-marketing materials, and putting together investor pitch decks, etc.
  • Executing and streamlining internal operations, including regular social media & newsletter engagement, planning team events, helping the founder validate business verticals, customer support, etc.
  • Managing the product team release cadence w/ the CTO while synchronizing design with customer feedback

Type of person we’re looking for

  • You are a clear communicator (verbal and written) and people have told you you’re good with people.
  • You are highly disciplined and are good at execution.
  • You know it’s easier to pick up the phone and dial or send that email/linkedin message.
  • You love to learn and can pick up knowledge quickly.
  • You are scrappy and can get things done with very little resources. You don’t mind having to do manual data entry in Google Sheets to run basic analysis.
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment without much guidance. You’re comfortable with a lack of structure (or lots of ambiguity).

Requirements

  • Interest / Passion for travel and all things points & miles.
  • 3+ years experience in strategy or operations roles, investment banking or other finance roles, and wanting to break into tech.
  • Willing to work in-person 4 days a week in San Francisco (Potrero Hill).

Why join Roame?

  • Join us as we fundamentally change the world of travel and points
  • Robust health, dental, and vision plans
  • Access to Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Generous 401(k) plan with matching
  • Access to commuter benefits
  • Free lunch at office in San Francisco
  • Company offsites with travel in business class using points

Our company culture, or why you may or may not be excited about joining us:

  • **Strong work ethic is a significant competitive advantage\ **As a startup we are trying to change the world and take on many large competitors. If this were easy, everyone would be doing it. Raw hours make a huge difference when facing overwhelming odds. We believe that having a strong work ethic is a competitive advantage, and we expect everyone at Roame to put in their best effort when they’re at work.
  • **Going above and beyond\ **Have an idea? Disagree with folks (founders)? Action speaks orders of magnitude louder than words, show us. Speaking up is not for everyone, but building to prove/disprove is. Our job is to delight our customers, anything to make their lives magical is in line with our mission. We got here because lightning struck the same place multiple times, but not without taking the first step. We can’t resist passion especially when it grows greater than ours.
  • **Take ownership and be accountable\ **We can rely on each member of the team to get their work done. When we say we'll do something - we get it done without anyone checking in on us. This way, we can establish a culture of trust and not micromanage each other. We are as strong as our weakest link and we aim to help one another to complete our tasks.
  • **Be Nice\ **We’re a family here, be nice to each other. We follow radical candor to get things done, we are a no-passive-aggressive shop, truth is hard to swallow, doesn’t mean it has to be delivered with malice. Egos are left at home, kindness is how we support each other. We are always improving at this.
  • **Disagree and commit\ **We can disagree and commit. Not all of our ideas will be implemented, and sometimes the group will decide to do something one of us disagrees with. Even if we disagree with the decision, we commit to getting it done. It's counterproductive to keep arguing and slow down implementation efforts; better to get it done quickly and see if it actually works instead of speculating otherwise.
