Lead Ground Fluid Systems Engineer

Job Summary

At Phase Four we are focused on delivering innovative propulsion solutions to meet the needs of tomorrow's satellite constellations. As a Phase Four Lead Ground Fluids Systems Engineer, you will be leading the team developing and maintaining all ground fluid equipment, and organizing and leading Customer support missions. This equipment includes fill/drain systems and products, pressure and leak testing products, and vacuum systems. This role requires the candidate to be on-site at our Hawthorne, CA, location.

Core Responsibilities:

  • This role will oversee and lead concept-to-production of ground fluid management systems, as well as required support equipment to facilitate the bring-up and delivery of qualified hardware with aggressive delivery schedules.
  • This role will oversee Customer support propellant fill activities at Customer site and launch sites in the US and around the world.
  • Work with high pressure component selection, integration and implementation.
  • Work cross functionally across the entire engineering team as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required in support of company needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fluid Dynamics.
  • 6+ years hands-on relevant propulsion system engineering and fluid systems experience.
  • Extensive experience designing, building and operation of fluid assemblies and components (i.e., test panels, propellant management systems and components, instrumentation).
  • Extensive working experience with 3D modeling/design platforms (Solidworks, GD&T, etc).
  • Experience with materials and material compatibility analysis.
  • Pressure systems instrumentation experience.
  • Prior experience working with RCCA/RCA quality efforts in support of rigorous QMS processes.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with engineering standards including:
  • ASME Y14.5 GD&T
  • AS/ISO/IPC Standards
  • Industry design and range safety requirements (91-710, S-080, RPUG, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cryogenic fluids hands on experience.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred) Experience with electric or liquid propulsion systems within Aerospace & Defense or equivalent type fluid systems and components.
  • Manufacturing experience, preferably at scale.
  • Prior experience with integration facility ground support operations.

Salary Range

  • $160,000—$190,000 USD

  1. Phone Interview with our Recruiting Team - 15-30 minutes - Where we learn about you, your experience, and what you're looking for in a new role, as well as give you a chance to learn about us, the role, and any questions you may have. If progressing to next step;
  2. Video Interview with the Hiring Manager - 30 minutes - This interview reviews the technical aspects of the role as well as your technical background. This is a great time for both you and the hiring manager to get more in depth about the expectations and technical mindset needed for the role. If progressing to next step;
  3. In-Person Interview - 90-120 minutes - Join us for an in-person interview at our office. During this time, you'll get to meet our team, tour our facility, and see what we do at Phase Four! If progressing to next step;
