OpenGov is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Data & Business Intelligence (BI) to lead and manage our data management and business intelligence functions. Head of Data & BI will be responsible for designing, implementing and executing on the data and analytics strategy for the company to support business growth and data driven decision making. You will be leading the BI and Data Engineering teams to oversee all aspects of data management - governance, quality, architecture, master data models, integrations and platforms; and business intelligence, with a focus on strategy, scalability, adoption, insights and efficiency.
Reporting to the CFO, this role will partner closely with the operations teams across go-to-market (GTM), G&A and R&D and the business systems team which is responsible for the systems strategy, roadmap and implementation. You will build relationships and work cross functionally to identify the data and BI needs across the organization and how to best support them. Finally, this is a leadership role and will involve frequent interactions with members of the Executive team to provide strategic decision support.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of the data and BI strategy for the company
Design, implement and manage a robust data architecture that supports data collection, storage, analysis, and reporting.
Identify and prioritize business problems and develop solutions using BI / data analytics.
Communicate insights and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders
Manage and lead the data engineering and business intelligence teams.
Align data warehouse and integration strategy with long-term business goals.
Apply broad knowledge of technology options, platforms, design techniques and approaches across the data warehouse life cycle phases to design an integrated analytics service to address business requirements.
Ensure completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system performance, availability and architecture requirements.
Oversee data design, data extracts and transforms, data quality monitoring, enhancements and ongoing support.
Develop and maintain a cost model to manage related tooling and implement controls to ensure cost is managed efficiently and within budget.
Implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency and privacy.
Ensure that the data warehouse and integration processes along with the supporting infrastructure and technologies align with OpenGov’s security and compliance needs.
Break down complex data and integrations to technical and non-technical staff members; Provide business context for your team to define data and BI projects.
Own the design, development, and maintenance of reports, analyses, and dashboards to support analytical and business needs; develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting.
Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis, including data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation; troubleshoot operational data-quality issues.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies, trends and best practices in data and BI / analytics; Act as a resource for the rest of the organization.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
Degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or related field (or equivalent experience)
15 years of experience in Business Systems, Business Intelligence, Data Engineering (or similar function in a technical role) working closely with/in business operations; 3+ years of leadership experience
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Data Tooling Experience:
Data Integration Platforms (Fivetran, Snaplogic, Workado, etc.)
Data Warehouse Platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, etc.)
Customer Data Platforms (Segment)
Data visualization platforms (Domo, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
Warehouse Transformation Platforms (dbt Labs)
Experience working with data from a wide array of business platforms- CRM, Support, Sales Engagement, Project Management, ERP, Contract and Billing, Professional Services, Workforce Management
Expert-level knowledge of enterprise Data Engineering and Business Intelligence
Advanced knowledge of data and systems architecture
Expert-level knowledge of enterprise SaaS applications and integrations
Self starter with the ability to navigate ambiguous and unstructured environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to senior leaders and stakeholders
Proven experience managing a team of data engineers and business analysts
Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
Experience with data management and governance policies and procedures
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Strong business acumen with the ability to understand and prioritize business problems and solutions using data analytics
Experience working with SaaS applications built on AWS or Azure platforms is a plus
Understanding of Enterprise Software and Subscription business models is preferred
