Ollie is looking for a Senior Packaging Engineer to deliver the next generation of packaging for the pet industry. The Senior Packaging Engineer (PE) will be part of Ollie’s RD&E team and work closely with our Sustainability, Operations and Marketing teams. The PE will be responsible for our current packaging portfolio and the development and implementation of innovative packaging solutions for future products. The PE will find materials, processes and vendors to source responsible, sustainable material choices while also maintaining cost and brand standards.
This role will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and is based remotely in the US.
What You'll Do:
- Lead all packaging design, development and production for Ollie’s full range of products for DTC and Retail channels
- Provide technical input to stakeholders and vendors to develop packaging solutions that meet Ollie’s FSQA, brand, sustainability and financial goals
- Lead all product packaging testing and analysis - working in partnership with our food and supply chain teams to ensure excellent product quality and consumer satisfaction
- Work collaboratively with the Impact/Sustainability team to ensure materials are curbside recyclable, or that they’re eligible for specialty collection programs
- Work collaboratively with the Customer Insights team to analyze packaging performance metrics for current packaging and use a data-led approach to evolve an improved packaging experience
- Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, including suppliers, manufacturers to ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards for packaging materials
- Demonstrate strong project management skills to ensure timely and successful completion of packaging projects for both DTC and Retail channels
Who You Are:
- You have a BS in Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical or Plastics Engineering. MS or PhD is a plus
- You have 6+ years’ experience in designing, developing and producing market-leading packaging solutions in the human food & beverage industries. Protein or pet food experience is preferred.
- You have a successful history of managing multiple, simultaneous projects, and of working well in a fast growing, omni channel company
- You have specific expertise in packaging structure design and composition, color and graphics optimization for printing, cost implications of different packaging material types, secure seals options and industry current and innovation trends.
