About this role
At Hey Jane, we are dedicated to educating and empowering our audience through accurate, compassionate, and supportive information about reproductive and sexual health care, including abortion care. We are currently looking for a knowledgeable Freelance Health Writer/Editor who shares our commitment to these issues, has a background in writing/editing medical content, and is adept at creating and editing both original and AI-assisted content (with a focus on SEO optimization).
As a Freelance Health Writer/Editor, you will be instrumental in developing content that educates, informs, and supports our readers. Your work will include writing original blog posts and articles, updating existing content to ensure SEO optimization, as well as refining and fact-checking content generated by AI to ensure accuracy, sensitivity, and compliance with our editorial and brand standards. This is a part-time contract position and is fully remote. The compensation is $1,200/month.

Responsibilities

  • Write 2 engaging, informative, and SEO-optimized blog posts per month on topics related to reproductive and sexual health care, including abortion care.
  • Update 5 existing blog posts a month to optimize for SEO to increase visibility and reader engagement.
  • Generate, edit and enhance 5 AI-assisted blog posts per month to ensure they meet our high-quality standards and align with our mission and voice.
  • Conduct thorough research to uphold the accuracy and credibility of all content.
  • Collaborate with Hey Jane’s health care professionals and subject matter experts to verify content when necessary.
  • Work closely with Hey Jane’s Head of Brand to brainstorm ideas and develop innovative content strategies.
  • Ensure that all content is sensitive, inclusive, and supportive, conveying Hey Jane’s judgment-free approach to care.
  • Manage deadlines and content schedules effectively, ensuring timely publications.

Qualifications

  • Proven writing and editing experience, particularly in health care, public health, or a related field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in a broad variety of medical topics with a preference for some experience in reproductive and sexual health topics.
  • Exceptional research skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent command of English with impeccable writing and editing abilities.
  • Experience in working with AI content generation tools and enhancing their output.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and best practices.
  • Ability to handle sensitive topics with empathy and an informed perspective.
