Divergent is on a mission to democratize the design and manufacture of vehicles. We want to enable a future where small entrepreneurial teams across the globe will bring increasingly material and energy efficient transportation solutions to market with a fraction of the capital and time.
Divergent has invented a complete manufacturing solution to address system level challenges. The Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS) is a complete software hardware solution designed to replace traditional vehicle manufacturing. To make the complex simple, it is a complete modular digital factory for complex structures. Given a set of digital requirements as input, the machine automatically computationally engineers, additively manufactures, and assembles any complex structure. The system is able to move seamlessly between manufacturing different vehicle models.
Purpose of Job:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Computational Geometry Engineer to apply advanced mathematical methods for optimization, processing and meshing of complex 3D models for additive manufacturing and robotic assembly, which tightly integrate with the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in applied two- and three-dimensional computational geometry, mesh generation, and geometric optimization, with a strong understanding of software development processes. The Senior Computational Geometry Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of innovative optimization software that meets the needs of our clients and is continuously improved to stay ahead of industry trends. If solving complex algorithmic and geometrical problems, developing manufacturing software from the ground up, and building rock-solid software at the foundation of a rapidly growing startup sounds interesting to you, then we would love to hear from you.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards:
•Develop and maintain software development best practices to ensure high-quality code, efficient testing, and timely releases.
•Design, implement, and optimize advanced algorithms and data structures in the field of computational geometry to address real-world challenges and improve the speed and efficiency of geometric computations.
•Design, implement, and optimize computational geometry algorithms specifically tailored for build preparation in additive manufacturing processes.
•Conduct in-depth analysis of geometric models to identify potential issues, optimize structures for 3D printing, and ensure manufacturability.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mathematicians, and domain experts, to ensure that our capabilities integrate seamlessly into larger software systems and applications.
•Prepare clear and comprehensive documentation for algorithms, code, and methodologies. Communicate complex concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
•Continuously monitor industry and research trends in computational geometry, geometric modeling, digital manufacturing, and computer-aided design, and bring those ideas back to the team.
Work Environment:
Requirements:
Education:
Ph.D. or Masters in computer science, applied mathematics, computational science, physics, engineering, or related fields.
Licenses/Certificates:
Experience:
•5+ years of experience in software development with MS, or 2+ years and a PhD.
•Deep understanding of software development processes and best practices.
•Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
•Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and customer success.
Skills:
•Strong proficiency in programming languages commonly used in computational geometry software development, such as C++ and Python.
•Deep understanding of computational geometry algorithms, data structures, and their practical implementations.
•Familiarity with complex geometric problems, such as proximity detection, shape analysis, mesh generation and geometric optimization.
•Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and formats commonly used in engineering, such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, and STEP.
•Strong understanding of mathematical concepts such as linear algebra, differential geometry, calculus, differential equations, and numerical methods.
•Experience with cloud computing, parallel processing, and high-performance computing for engineering problems.
•Experience in 3D computational geometry and physics-based simulation algorithms.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and solve complex technical issues.
•OpenMP and GPU programming (CUDA) is a plus.
•Knowledge of 3D printing-related methods, such as slicing, infill strategies, and isosurface extraction is a plus.
