The System Safety Manager (SSM) is an integral participant in the design/development of the Safety & Mission Assurance process and will be responsible for leading and performing safety analyses to identify and resolve hazards and risks present in spacecraft and ground systems. This role will include supporting all phases of the hardware lifecycle and space mission objectives. In this role, you will lead and work with a multi-disciplinary team responsible for System Safety, and you will interface with engineers, operations, safety engineers, and representatives from other subsystems to plan, document, and execute effective strategies for eliminating and/or minimizing risk.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the System Safety team to achieve requirements and program deliverable milestones.
Work in a collaborative engineering team environment and progress a positive safety culture.
Lead, develop and present flight hardware hazard reports to achieve project/program approval.
Responsible for end-to-end system safety analysis and documentation.
Develop management systems and processes to maintain and deliver flight readiness certifications, S&MA records, process nonconformance’s and integrate reliability analysis.
Partner, develop and implement Safety & Mission Assurance program to meet mission, launch and company objectives. Partners and facilitate development of S&MA deliverables with the technical community.
Perform and facilitate Safety and Mission Assurance trade studies for hardware and integrated configurations.
Participate in the develop and implementation of accurate safety data management systems/records.
Integrated S&MA team member supporting Spacecraft DDT&E, Testing and Verification activity utilizing enterprise tools (JAMA, JIRA) utilizing the agile engineering approach.
Participate on a team to drive towards successful development, manufacturing, launch and integration of Commercial Space Station and Crewed Missions.
Develop S&MA reports/presentations and perform other S&MA tasks as necessary.
Manage cost account and deliverables to meet program/business objectives, conduct performance management functions to advance the teams skill set to achieve the organization objectives.
Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
8-15 years conducting safety and/or hazard analysis functions
B.S. in Engineering, Math or Science required (graduate degree preferred)
Required: Experience NASA Safety processes, and spacecraft Hazard Analysis
Skills
Background in Safety and Mission Assurance of human-rated spaceflight systems
Development of spacecraft hazard reports and fault trees
Confident, self-driven, dynamic individual adept at team building and accomplishment of tasks accurately and on time.
Six Sigma Continual Improvement project facilitator (preferred)
Capable of cohesively influence a team of internal and outsourced talent

Essential Functions
Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Requirements
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
