SUMMARY: Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Test and Qualification Engineer who will primarily be responsible for assisting in the design, qualification, and assembly of the axiom products. This position reports to Payloads Engineering Manager. This role is onsite and will be based at our ASTC facility.


  • Cultivate a knowledge of current ISS payload interfaces and future trends in human-tended payload systems for commercial and government customers in the space industry.
  • Support payloads engineering products through the test and qualification lifecycle by:
  • Defining, creating, and managing integrated test plans, procedures, and schedule across the payloads engineering team to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Designing and implementing test setups, including data acquisition systems, for various testing scenarios such as environmental, thermal, static load, Shock/vibration, EMI/EMC, acoustic testing, or test instrumentation
  • Conducting tests on payloads systems and generating test reports documenting procedures, results, analysis and recommending further action.
  • Supporting the identification, design, development, and procurement activities for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Test Support Equipment.
  • Work hands-on to get test systems functional and eliminate barriers to testing.
  • Ensure adherence to quality management systems and safety protocols throughout the testing and qualification process such as the National Electric Code.
  • Coordinating test activities with external test facilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Required: 1-3 years’ experience in test engineering or a similar role, or a combined equivalent of education and experience
  • Required: Hands on experience building, testing and/or assembling space flight hardware.
  • Required: Experience with mechanical component and instrumentation selection for test systems.
  • Required: Familiar with electrical integration of analog and digital components with data acquisition systems (cRIO, cDAQ, Labview).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of SSP 41172 (Qualification and Acceptance Environmental Test Requirements for ISS).
  • Preferred: Experience troubleshooting real-time and finding solutions to mechanical and electrical problems
  • Preferred: Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or other data acquisition and data reduction software(s).
  • Preferred: Experience working with mechanical and electrical technicians
  • Preferred: Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.


  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
